Back to School 2026

Happy September! As the campus comes back to life today and a new academic year kicks off, I’m getting ready to head back into the classroom this term to teach a linear regression course tailored for non-stats majors.

Teaching statistics to students outside of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science is always one of my favorite challenges. Linear regression is such a foundational tool across so many fields, but for non-majors, the hurdle is rarely the underlying math. This term, I am focusing to help them with

  • understanding why they actually need the class,
  • learning how to interpret models with confidence, and
  • apply them meaningfully in the real world.

I am going to be experimenting with incorporating GenAI tools to encourage more self-driven learning too.

Wishing everyone—faculty, researchers, and students alike—a smooth start to the Fall term!
