Analyzing Pandemic Healthcare Disruption

I am thrilled to highlight another interdisciplinary work by SCSRU graduate consultant and fourth-year Ph.D. student Jeremy VanderDoes! Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team from the School of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, Jeremy applied advanced analytical skills to explore the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare utilization and mortality rates in Ontario. He employed an interrupted time series design paired with segmented regression models to evaluate fluctuations in monthly emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and physician consultations. While I was on hand to offer guidance, I provided minimal support because Jeremy completely took the reins and took care of everything himself from start to finish. His independent analysis revealed stark, data-driven patterns of disruption, underscoring the profound power of statistical modeling to uncover hidden insights in massive public health datasets.

Congratulations Jeremy!
